GARLAND

Dried citrus can be a beautiful embellishment to your holiday decor! We love making it in the late autumn months- the color is perfect for all the Fall holidays and transitions well into the Christmas season too! It’s simple and cost-effective to make and can be a sustainable way to decorate.

We’re going to show you how in a few easy steps!

Step 1

Slice a couple oranges up thin, about 1/4”. Lay the slices flat on a paper towel to absorb some moisture for 30 minutes or so.

Step 2

Preheat your oven to 210 degrees.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean-up! Lay your orange slices on the parchment paper and bake for about 4 hours, turning about every 30 minutes.

This process takes a while so make sure you do this project on a day that you will be hanging around at your house (hopefully watching Christmas movies!). You will definitely want to stick around because your home is going to smell amazing!

Step 3

Once your orange slices cool, string twine through each orange with a thick sewing needle. We put the needle through just below the rind.

If you don’t have a sewing needle handy, you can tie a piece of wire to the end of your twine! We like using a cotton twine so everything is compostable at the end of the season:)

Step 4

Have fun embellishing your garland with wooden craft beads, fresh cranberries, popcorn, or sprigs of evergreen. Hang on your mantle, above your kitchen window or on your Christmas tree!

If you have any extra slices, you could tuck them into your winter wreaths for a lovely pop of color.
